In a world driven by technology, equipping young people with digital skills is one of the most powerful ways to build a brighter future. At Education for Africa (EFA), we are doing exactly that through our impactful Mentorship Program and Information Technology Training.
The University Conference and ongoing IT mentorship sessions are designed to empower the youth, mentor them to become responsible citizens, and prepare them to serve their country effectively in their respective professional fields.
Looking at the image above, you can see young men fully engaged in a hands-on IT training session. Participants are seated at individual computer stations, focused on their screens, while a facilitator leads the session in front of a whiteboard. The large banner proudly declares: “MENTORSHIP PROGRAM – RAISING A GENERATION” — a clear reflection of our mission.
Bridging the Skills Gap with Practical IT Training
Many university students and young graduates in Kenya, especially from marginalized and rural communities, face a significant challenge: they complete their education but lack the practical digital skills demanded by today’s job market. Our ongoing Information Technology Training program addresses this gap head-on.
Through structured, practical sessions, participants learn essential IT skills including:
- Computer literacy and hardware basics
- Software applications and productivity tools
- Basic programming and coding concepts
- Internet safety and digital responsibility
- Career guidance and professional development
These hands-on workshops are not just about learning how to use a computer — they are about building confidence, fostering innovation, and creating opportunities for self-reliance.
Mentorship That Builds Character and Leadership
Beyond technical skills, the Mentorship Program focuses on holistic development. We believe true empowerment goes beyond certificates. That’s why our sessions emphasize:
- Responsible Citizenship: Teaching young people the value of integrity, accountability, and service to their communities and nation.
- Leadership Development: Encouraging participants to become role models who can inspire positive change.
- Personal Growth: Helping youth discover their strengths, set goals, and develop a growth mindset.
The program is ongoing, with regular training sessions held at our center. Each cohort benefits from experienced mentors who guide them not only in technology but also in life skills, ethics, and community service.
Raising a Generation Ready to Serve Kenya
As the banner in the training room boldly states, we are “Raising a Generation” that is skilled, ethical, and ready to contribute meaningfully to Kenya’s development. By combining Information Technology training with strong mentorship, we are preparing young people to excel in fields such as:
- Information Technology and cybersecurity
- Digital entrepreneurship
- Education technology (EdTech)
- Public service and administration
Many of our past participants have gone on to secure better employment opportunities, start small tech initiatives, or continue their studies with greater confidence and purpose.
